The Hon. Robert S. Reeves is a judge for the Middle Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia. He joined the bench in 2007.
The Middle Judicial Circuit is comprised of Candler, Emanuel, Jefferson, Toombs, and Washington counties.
Reeves was named Chief Judge of the Middle Judicial Circuit in 2020. On July 30, 2024, the Supreme Court of Georgia handed down a thirty-day unpaid suspension and a public reprimand for Reeves, stemming from 58 formal charges of misconduct that occurred over a seven-year period. The alleged misconduct included habitual intemperance and conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice. Reeves agreed to not seek reelection to the bench at the end of his term in 2026.
He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Emory University in 1966. Reeves then completed a J.D. at Emory University School of Law in 1969. He is admitted to practice in Georgia, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Court of Military Appeals.
After graduating from law school, Reeves began his legal career with the Office of Attorney General of Georgia, while awaiting his military orders from the United States Air Force. Nine months later, he went to work in the Judge Advocate General's Office. Upon leaving the military, Reeves entered into private practice in Carrollton.
Prior to joining the bench, he managed his own private practice, establishing the office in Swainsboro in 1981. During that time, Reeves handled criminal cases, domestic relations, real estate, and civil rights cases. Before that, he practiced for a time in Carrollton.
