Viramontes v. The County of Cook is a landmark case that challenged the systemic biases in standardized testing procedures used in public employment.
The hearing lasted for almost eight years and concluded that the Sheriff's Department of Cook County had unjustly employed testing practices leading to racial discrimination. The ruling favored the plaintiffs, Viramontes and other Hispanic and African American applicants, thereby setting a significant precedent in employment law.
