About U.S. Term Limits
U.S. Term Limits is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to advocating for term limits. We believe that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people—not a ruling class focused on self-serving deals—is essential.
Our mission is to foster a higher quality of government by establishing a citizen legislature. This legislature would more accurately reflect its constituents and be genuinely responsive to their needs. We work tirelessly with citizens across the nation, helping them understand why term limits are a necessary government reform and how to implement this vision from their local town councils all the way to Congress.
It’s important to note that U.S. Term Limits does not require individuals to self-limit their terms. Our aim is to limit the terms for all members of Congress as an institution, ensuring a more dynamic and accountable representative body.
PLEDGE SIGNERS
We ask congressional lawmakers and candidates to sign a term limits pledge saying they will support and cosponsor a resolution for two 6-year terms in the U.S. Senate and three 2-year terms in the U.S. House.
We ask state lawmakers and candidates to support a convention to propose a congressional term limits amendment.
We do not ask lawmakers to self-limit.

What We Do
Our mission is to codify the congressional term limits amendment into the U.S. Constitution.
We are implementing a multi-pronged strategy that involves working with lawmakers, candidates and the public while activating supporters in order to pass our objectives through the states, Congress and/or the courts if necessary.
We spearhead term limits resolutions through both chambers of at least 20 state legislatures and Congress urging lawmakers to support term limits as a crucial reform.
Supporter empowerment is a powerful program component. We ensure term limits advocates are fully informed on which candidates have committed to the term limits pledge and how lawmakers vote on our legislation.
Our grassroots supporters are the most powerful force in our movement. They reach out to lawmakers during critical milestones to help us pass resolutions throughout the country.
