Judge denies release citing deportation concerns |

|
A Dukes County Superior Court judge refused to release on personal recognizance two Brazilian nationals accused of child rape, citing flight risk and ICE detainers. Jair Deoliveira and Ana Sousa face multiple charges, including aggravated child rape and kidnapping. Bail was set at $20,000 each. Both currently remain in custody ahead of their April trial.

A Vineyard hockey parent is raffling off a handmade Adirondack chair built from donated hockey sticks to help cover team costs. With gear and travel expenses piling up, Kyle Gatchell hopes the fundraiser supports families who can’t afford the sport’s high price tag. Tickets are $10 or three for $25 at every home game. Submarine cable project making landfall |

Eversource is installing new submarine cables. One of the cables is expected to reach the Island in East Chop this week, weather permitting, a spokesperson for Eversource said. This is part of the Martha's Vineyard Reliability Project, which will help growing energy needs and allow Eversource to decommission five diesel generators on the Island. Builder Billy Dillon is working with Kominka North America to salvage historic Japanese structures and adapt them for new uses in the U.S. He believes these small traditional buildings could become ADUs or community spaces, offering creative, sustainable housing solutions.
