Watco Reorganizes Top Management

Short line holding company Watco has announced changes in its executive ranks that became effective on Jan. 1.

CEO Dan Smith has assumed the responsibilities of executive chairman of Watco’s governing board while continuing in his role as CEO. Smith joined Watco in 2009 and became CEO in 2018.

Rick Baden, who previously served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, and has now assumed the role of EVP and vice chairman. Baden joined Watco in 2004.

Andy Nielsen, formerly EVP and chief accounting officer, became the EVP and CFO. Nielsen, who joined Wattco in 2015, will be responsible for overseeing Watco’s finance, treasury, capital allocation and investor relations functions.

Corman Names Igoe as President, COO

R.J. Corman Railroad has named former BNSF operations chief Matt Igoe as its new president and chief operating officer.

The appointment is effective immediately. Igoe will oversee transportation, mechanical, engineering, and day-to-day network performance across Corman’s 19 short lines.

Igoe previously served as executive vice president of operations at BNSF, a post he began in January 2021.

Before joining BNSF in 1998 as a management trainee, Igoe served as an officer in the U.S. Army. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Canisius College and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Igoe will replace Ray Goss, who is retiring.

Corman Railroad President to Retire

December 31, 2025

R.J. Corman Railroad President Raymond Goss plans to retire effective Jan. 30, 2026. Gross is a five-decade railroader he has led Corman for seven years.

Prior to joining Corman, Goss held worked at Genesee & Wyoming, Amtrak, and Canadian Pacific.

Corman Railroad operates 19 short lines in 11 states and is part of the larger R.J. Corman Railroad Group.

CSX Names 2 to Top Posts

CSX has named Kevin Boone as executive vice president and chief financial officer, and Maryclare Kenney as senior vice president and chief commercial officer.

Boone succeeds Sean Pelkey, who has left CSX. Boone has held several posts at CSX since joining the railroad in 2017. Most recently, he was executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

He also served as vice president of corporate affairs and investor relations.

Kenney has served CSX’s commercial operations for nearly 14 years. Most recently, she was responsible for merchandise sales and marketing, TRANSFLO, automotive and Total Distribution Services.

Prior to that, Kenney served as vice president of intermodal and automotive. Before joining CSX in 2011, Kenney held sales positions at PepsiCo and served in the U.S. Army for seven years, achieving the rank of captain.

The leadership changes follow the CSX board’s decision last month to replace CEO Joseph Hinrichs. 

CSX Names Angel CEO

Steve Angel

CSX this week named Steve Angel as CEO. He replaced Joseph Hinrichs, who resigned after leading the Class 1 railroad for three years.

Angel is the former CEO of chemical company Linde.  He has more than 45 years of experience leading large, public companies. That also included General Electric.

In a statement, CSX said Angel is experienced in leading companies through “significant transformation.”

In the case of CSX, it is under pressure to respond in the wake of the announcement that its chief rival in the eastern United States, Norfolk Southern, wants to merge with Union Pacific.

It remains to be seen whether this will lead CSX to team up with BNSF, CPKC or Canadian National, the other large North American Class 1 systems.

Broyles Named Corman CEO and President

August 21, 2025

Justin Broyles has been named President and CEO of R.J. Corman Railroad Group.

He had served in both positions on an interim basis since June 27 after Ed Quinn resigned.

Broyles has worked at Corman since 2018 and before that served as chief commercial officer for Patriot Rail.

At Corman he has been executive vice president of commercial affairs and overseen emergency services, storm response, construction, national account management.

Amtrak Names New Chief Financial Officer

August 4, 2025

Amtrak has appointed Costin Corneanu as its executive vice president and chief financial officer.

He will succeed Tracie Winbigler, who plans to retire on Jan. 1, 2026. Until then, Winbigler will continue in her EVP role as chief transformation officer, leading the procurement and real estate teams. 

Corneanu has been serving as deputy chief financial officer since January. He will be responsible for planning, directing and overseeing all of Amtrak’s financial activities, including forecasting, strategic planning, budgets, risk and controls, and capital portfolio governance functions. 

Before joining Amtrak in 2020, Corneanu spent eight years at Spirit Airlines and four years at US Airways.

R.J. Corman Names Interim CEO

Justin Broyles has been named interim president and CEO at R.J. Corman Railroad Group. He replaces Ed Quinn, who resigned last month.

Broyles has been with Corman since 2018 and has 25 years of experience in the railroad industry including having served as chief commercial officer for Patriot Rail.

His work at Corman has included emergency services, storm response, construction and national account management. As executive vice president of commercial affairs, he has overseen all commercial activities, including managing the marketing and sales teams for the company’s 19 short lines.

Corman CEO Stepping Down

June 5, 2025

R.J. Corman Railroad Group CEO Ed Quinn is stepping down from his post after nearly nine years.

He will remain a member of the board of directors during a transition period.

Quinn joined Corman as president and CEO in 2016, returning to the company after leading sales and marketing efforts for an industrial fan company.

OmniTRAX Names Tanner New CEO

April 3, 2025

Short line holding company OmniTRAX has named Colby Tanner as its new chief executive officer.

Tanner, a BNSF sales and marketing executive, will begin his duties on April 15. He will work with current OmniTRAX CEO Dean Piacente ahead of the latter’s retirement in December. Piacente will serve on the OmniTRAX board of directors.

Tanner joined BNSF in 2015 and his duties have included oversight of the industrial products group as well as management of billions of dollars in project site selection, construction and real estate development.

He began his career with the Missouri Department of Economic Development, then expanded his industrial project site selection experience at Carter & Burgess. Next, he spent a decade managing industrial development and retail expansion at Walmart, then moved on to oversee the western U.S. real estate footprint for Sam’s Club.
